The team behind acclaimed East London bars, The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company, has open the doors to its highly anticipated third launch – Umbrella Workshop.

The newly launched Umbrella Workshop is located just off of Shoreditch’s Boundary Street and housed in a 19th century atelier. The award-winning team behind Bethnal Green’s much-loved cocktail pub, The Sun Tavern, and its sister haunt, Discount Suit Company, has sensitively restored the space to create a unique setting for its interactive cocktail experience.

The intimate space includes a custom bar, made from 500-year-old reclaimed wood and features a brass peanut rail branded with their eponymous umbrella logo. The bar is set against an impressive, floor-to-ceiling display of spirits, which include locally made and independent brands as well as bartender favourites and rare whiskies. Hanging above the space is a stunning installation of dried flowers – a nod to the space’s past history as a craftsman’s workshop.

Visitors to Umbrella Workshop will be treated to a daily changing menu that will act as an incubator for their latest drinks development, with the most popular cocktails then appearing on the menus of their sister sites. The space will also host tastings and workshops, with everything on the menu also available to buy to take home. Open from midday until 10m daily, and with just 12 seats, this intimate drinking spot is a hidden gem amongst bustling Shoreditch and perfectly located for afternoon or pre-dinner cocktails.

The concept – which has been two years in the making – was is born out of necessity during Lockdown 1.0, when the doors of The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company temporarily closed and the teams kept the East End and beyond sufficiently lubricated, with the delivery of bottled cocktails, cocktail kits, low intervention and natural wines, small producer spirits and of course Irish whiskey. Their online store, which has become a new arm to their business, now has a bricks and mortar home at Umbrella Workshop.
