“Do not judge a gin by its bottle”. This is what we at Sated HQ had to keep repeating to ourselves when confronted with the outrageously coloured Burleighs Gin Pink Edition. Whilst we found the matte, baby pink frontage hard to stomach, we were happily surprised by its contents.

Burleighs’ gins are distilled in the Charnwood Forest in northwest Leicestershire. It was in the adjacent Burleigh Woods that Master Distiller, Jamie Baxter, found inspiration to create his own unique blend of eponymously named London Dry gin, formed from a collection of local botanicals including silver birch, dandelion, burdock, elderberry and iris. Since then, Baxter has set about developing a range of variations, including Burleighs Pink Edition: a floral and gently sweet gin inspired by a visit to Tokyo.

Tasting Notes: Burleighs Gin Pink Edition

Nose

Zesty and full of vibrant grapefruit. Whilst there is a floral bouquet, it is not as heady or sweet as the bottle suggests.

Taste

Pink grapefruit tempers the sweetness of hibiscus and cranberries add a bittersweet element to the palate. The liquid is surprisingly smooth and weighty, whilst maintaining light floral notes. Citric bitterness and aromatic spice linger in the mouth.

Suggested Serve

This is best served with a good quality, lightly flavoured tonic such as Fever-Tree Aromatic Tonic Water that will bring out its spiced and bitter qualities. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.
